Nice looking chassis, I might have to build one myself and put it under a Cuda or Challenger. One can use a tie tack to hold the wires in the center of the chassis. Simply solder the tie tack in the middle of the chassis approximately where you taped them down then pass the wires through the round eyelets and the the wires are secure until you want to remove them. We used that method on the 1/24 scale steel chassis on the commercial tracks. Also if you make the wires about the same length ahead of the tack it will create the same tension and help center the guide which makes it easier to put the car back into the slot when marshaling. Cool build!!!!

Also might want to put a couple of Parma or Slick7- 1/8 steel washers between the copper shim tubing and the bushing. Steal washers won't wear like the copper tubing, plus when lightly oiled the will work like a generic bearing.

Thanks for the info. I just got lazy and used tape, but that is a very ideal way.

These are 3/32nd axles. I used thin shims Slot Car Corner makes in between the tubing and bushing for that reason. I should show that.

Man i like your builds, I am going to try some this fall. I really liked to build or alter chassis to fit model car bodies when I used to drag 1/24 scale slots. No commercial track in northeast Kansas anymore, so home slots is where it's at.

I think that I will try to do that, I want to see your famous oval! I would like to learn about routing my own track.

Just between us, I suspect home racing was always where it was at. I remember going to the commercial tracks, but it was always best at somebody's house, especially back when the older guys were routing amazing tracks in their basements in the middle 1960s. That's when I got addicted to 1/32 and 1/24. I had nothing but HO before that.

Cheater, the tires will stick out a little :) More like a "vintage racer" sort of theme.

I will post widths and other details today.

Well, here we go :)

The interior is flat tray type, made from a playing card.

Image

MT Resin driver figure, roll bars made from Evergreen rod. Little screen added of course.

I decided to use a different mounting approach. Dave Dobner taught me this trick and it really works. Used some 1/4 square dowel rod and JB Weld. Little super glue in the seam for good measure.

Image

Drilled the mount holes in the side pans, then mounted the body on the chassis. I hot glued it to hold it steady and then used a smaller drill bit and drilled the holes into the wood.

Image

I set the front and rear track width at just under 2 1/4 inches. I wanted that wide look on this car and it worked well enough.

Decals from the scrap bin. Nothing fancy.

All in all this was a lot of fun! Dave made a real nice body and now I finally have that big old sedan in 1/32.

Now for the coupe!

Looks really good, sir.

I'll never catch up, so for now I'll be content to appreciate these from afar.

That looks like a lot of fun to run. I have got to get the track done so I can go back to building! Great work, Harry.

I don't care if they ever run together (but wouldn't that be a gathering!), but I want a nice big print of all these that we all make from these bodies, and I'll frame it to hang above my track.
