I know several people were wondering how this hybrid approach would work, and how
the car would behave with the guide just behind the front axle..
Well, the install looks clean.. the wires are pretty well concealed. As for performance?
The car is fast and stable in the corners.. definitely a higher cornering speed than with guide out front.
There is little tail out sliding.. this is not a 'drifting through the corners' kind of car with this setup.
On the oval, it is 2 tenths quicker than the lower, wider Whelen type mods I have with the laminated paper bodies.
(This mod has the same engine, same gearing, but slightly skinnier tires)
Now that said, the car still needs to be driven. If you are too hot in to the corner it will roll up out of the slot,
but it takes a significant speed for that to happen. The Whelen type mods are maybe just a bit easier to drive at
the limit lap after lap, but this certainly was not difficult. Just a little bit of a learning curve and it was
ripping off very fast, very controlled laps.
I'm setting up my other old school Modifieds with this same setup.. D3D front carrier and guide just behind the axle.
