Hello Slotsters! Let’s have a King of the Road Proxy, based on hot rods and street rods. Roll down the asphalt with the tunes cranked up; strutting that inimitable American Iron. The King of the Road was the coolest car that could back it up with performance on the street. And what made it great was that all that shade tree engineering came from guys with little more than a set of wrenches and passion.
Here are some of my thoughts. Some of this is pretty etched in stone, but a lot more isn’t, so I invite your input and suggestions. Recently, I put on (with Burrell) the Abecedarian Proxy, here on HRW. It was a very successful proxy. This proxy will be a continuation of the ABC proxy and also an extension of that race. The time of the race will be determined later. Here are my thoughts so far:
In stone: 1/32 scale, hard body cars
American cars, pre 1960
Rubber/Urethane tires
Street appearance
ABC Proxy, and/or
Tuner’s Proxy
Name on bottom of car
Entry fee
I want to have an Abecedarian Proxy to help get new racers into Proxy racing. This class (just as before) is for box stock cars with basic tuning techniques and after-market tires to improve performance. Since Carrera is the only maker to offer hot rods and street rods, the ABC class will be based on Carrera cars.
I also want to have a Tuner’s Proxy. This is especially where I would like some more thoughts. To really be a Tuner’s race, it seems it should be more or less unregulated, but that can get stupid and expensive. Totally open seems to open the door a little too wide. So, I am thinking that motors should have an upper limit. I would like to keep chassis design/modification open for the most part, but I was thinking no Womp/stamped chassis. No hinged (except Fate front axle) chassis. Finally, no ball bearings. That would be the extent of limits. But, I put this out here because I can think of reasons why this should not be too regulated. What are your thoughts?
You can enter either/both classes with separate races for each class.
If you’re with me this far, a word about entry fee. I decided (while I was working on the first ABC race) that twice a year I wanted to host a proxy race that would also serve as a fund-raiser for HRW. It was voluntary last time, and everyone chose to participate. This race will ask for a $10 donation (per class) to be given to Harry for everything he does. This time it is not voluntary. Based on the number of entries, there will be a fee to offset the costs of shipping, in addition to the donation.
I could elaborate some more about all of this, but I would rather do that through a discussion with members of this board. So, let’s put this race together and crown the King of the Road.
