Hello Slotsters! Let’s have a King of the Road Proxy, based on hot rods and street rods. Roll down the asphalt with the tunes cranked up; strutting that inimitable American Iron. The King of the Road was the coolest car that could back it up with performance on the street. And what made it great was that all that shade tree engineering came from guys with little more than a set of wrenches and passion.

Here are some of my thoughts. Some of this is pretty etched in stone, but a lot more isn’t, so I invite your input and suggestions. Recently, I put on (with Burrell) the Abecedarian Proxy, here on HRW. It was a very successful proxy. This proxy will be a continuation of the ABC proxy and also an extension of that race. The time of the race will be determined later. Here are my thoughts so far:

In stone: 1/32 scale, hard body cars
American cars, pre 1960
Rubber/Urethane tires
Street appearance
ABC Proxy, and/or
Tuner’s Proxy
Name on bottom of car
Entry fee

I want to have an Abecedarian Proxy to help get new racers into Proxy racing. This class (just as before) is for box stock cars with basic tuning techniques and after-market tires to improve performance. Since Carrera is the only maker to offer hot rods and street rods, the ABC class will be based on Carrera cars.

I also want to have a Tuner’s Proxy. This is especially where I would like some more thoughts. To really be a Tuner’s race, it seems it should be more or less unregulated, but that can get stupid and expensive. Totally open seems to open the door a little too wide. So, I am thinking that motors should have an upper limit. I would like to keep chassis design/modification open for the most part, but I was thinking no Womp/stamped chassis. No hinged (except Fate front axle) chassis. Finally, no ball bearings. That would be the extent of limits. But, I put this out here because I can think of reasons why this should not be too regulated. What are your thoughts?

You can enter either/both classes with separate races for each class.

If you’re with me this far, a word about entry fee. I decided (while I was working on the first ABC race) that twice a year I wanted to host a proxy race that would also serve as a fund-raiser for HRW. It was voluntary last time, and everyone chose to participate. This race will ask for a $10 donation (per class) to be given to Harry for everything he does. This time it is not voluntary. Based on the number of entries, there will be a fee to offset the costs of shipping, in addition to the donation.

I could elaborate some more about all of this, but I would rather do that through a discussion with members of this board. So, let’s put this race together and crown the King of the Road.

I'll throw .02 at it! :D
The ABC portion of the proxy sounds good - as that was a LOT of fun last time!
The hunt for cars might be a little more interesting as I think the only pre-60 currently being offered is the '57 Chevy (although it may not look the part with the steelie type wheels) - the rest will have to be found via eBay and or vendors that might have some old stock on the shelf.
But any way we go on that - consider me intrigued!

On the builders side of things - I would like to see a specific motor - be it a H&R Hawk, Pirana, M/T-5 etc along with a specific gear ratio (9-27?) with wheels / tires up to the builder - so long as the tires are rubber / urethane - that way the cars should be on somewhat equal footing from a powerplant standpoint - and it helps keep things fun and competitive.
But just my thoughts.

Oh and one other thought - if the date range is moved to 1960 and earlier - you would also capture the '60 Plymouth Fury in the list of choices... :)

Look forward to seeing how this shapes up! :banana-dance:

I'm not sure what these other classes are?
I must be the only guy out there who likes the PPR tires on the 1/32 cars because every set of rules I've read lately leaves them out.
But your house your rules.
Where do I find the info on these other classes?

Thanks ... J Y D

Not a problem it was just my 2 cents worth.
We run the PPR's mostly on the 1/32 cars & the Paul Gage tires on the Womps & 1/25 cars with out problems.
I like the Paul Gage tires I've just never used on the smaller cars ... guess I'll have to get some.

Again where do I find the rules for these other classes?

Thanks ... J Y D

P.S. And like the Toad said "You got the Bitchin-est car in the valley" you'll always be number one!

Those are some MEAN lookin' machines!!! I sincerely hope that whatever the rules end up being for the King of the Road class - that those fit it! (The body style definitely does!)

JYD, those cars are EXACTLY what I think will be fun to race. I have also been thinking about a concours competition. Maybe tires should be unregulated? That in itself could make for some interesting differences in performance. (one reason for the rubber tire rule was the thought that, like the ABC Proxy, cars would race on plastic and wood and I think rubber is a little more versatile) But, I could be wrong about that. What about the idea of a spec motor? Or, could a set of performance parameters be set, based on Robert Livingston's motor chart?
