Carrera Cheetah comparison

Postby ListerStormGT » Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:30 am

I recieved my Carrera Cheetah on Friday and was blown away how good it looks. I really think they got the size and proportions right on this car. I never really thought the MRRC version looked right and seemed like the nose was a little long. I did a Pastimes resin kit years ago that I still have and also a George Turner Cheetah Roadster kit that I did not too long ago. I always thought the Pastimes kit looked good until I did the Turner kit, but after seeing all of these cars together I think the Carrera car really nails the way the car should look. So I took some pics of each car next to the Carrera to share so everyone can decide for themselves and see the differences in each of them.

Good info Lee, thanks for doing this.

After the fun Tom and I had yesterday...I actually like the Cheetah a lot more. The Cobra still has me smitten, but the Cheetah is getting there.

Jeremy,

I feel for you brother! I mean not having any of the Cheetahs nor Cobras definately puts you in the underprivileged category. These have to be the best looking, most fun-filled cars that are so affordable I'm sure almost everyone will have some of them.

Okay, let's turn off the sarcasm mode!

I have to take it that with Christmas coming that there are at least one of each in your stocking?

We'll be waiting to hear how much you like them once you open them up and play, err I mean run them around a few thousand laps!

Lovely models too just quietly....

I only have the MRRC version (same livery as the photo), that Carerra car looks sweet though, may have to add it to the list :)

Gotta admit, I had no intention of getting the Carrera version, since I already had the MRRC. Then I saw the Carrera version, and it's just too nice to pass up.

Posted on SCI and I wanted to repost here because the comparison is inevitable. Edited based on the conversation here....

Tires... well I would like to see a more common tire used on cars as well. And trust me I agitate for that as much as possible. Sometimes I'm successful and sometimes i'm not.

On a slightly different note. I've been working with Bill Thomas Jr. for more than a year now on approvals for the newest decorations of his father's car. Bill Thomas Jr. has been racing Cheetahs for decades now, he is not only the keeper of his fathers legacy but an active participant in keeping the car alive and raced. I talk with him every few weeks it seems, last week in fact to get approvals for the next 2 Cheetahs we have in the pipeline that will be coming out. He gets samples of each deko and is VERY happy with the Carrera models and he races them with his grandkids and family. We have worked with him every step of the process from body shape to decoration. He have personally signed off on every critical aspect of these cars. And to date this is the ONLY approved Cheetah since the 60's that's been produced....

THAT is the kind of work that deserves recognition. For me it adds so much more appeal to a simple model knowing the work that went on behind the scenes.

It is simply a catch 22. Fine scale enthusiasts want accuracy, the racer wants compatibility. Sometimes we get both, sometimes not.

Carrera has made the best Cheetah for me, no contest.

And Paul..."Bolt-On Ready". I like that. These along with the one Dickie made just shows that the racer will easily figure out how to tune them.

Dave, that is really great stuff there, working directly with the man and getting his approvals on these cars. Makes it just so much more authentic!

Thanks a lot Paul, I thought I could handle just having the red one for awhile, but now I have to get the blue one ASAP after seeing that pic! :P

there we go... last one done... nice class of cars.

Hi Dave K, how about a re-release of the Corvette StingRay or a new Grand Sport, a Ferrari 250GTO, a GT40, a 917K, at $40 a copy Carrera might corner the slot car market!

I would love to release the Stingray again. I would never however suggest at GT40 as the market is neckdeep in them already.

Dave, but how cool would it be to have a 1/32 917k and Ferrari 512 for under $40. Yeah they have been done before but they are still highly wanted models. :)
