Ran another test 'n' tune session last night at Tony's STMS. He installed the required new rear bumper onto
my red #14 Reality Modified for me, and then I installed a fresh motor. Ran some good hot laps in practice,
clicking off a few 2.05-2.08 second times on the fast inside yellow lane. Ready to race, right? Wrong.
I was promptly "T-Boned" in turn 1 on the second lap of the race, and my car was J-U-N-K for the rest of the night!
Finished dead last, but we all had a lot of fun. Willy put his white #73 up and over the wall onto the floor more than once.
His car was bent up at least as bad as mine. He finished 2 or 3 laps ahead of me after the 2.5 minute x 4 heat race.
Soon we'll be dialing in my favorites, the 16D powered 4 1/2" FCR hard body cars... THEN I'll be a real happy racer!
Gotta get some new FORD bodies ready. More next week... Ernie :>)

Figures... I miss ONE race and that's the one that we publish the results from! :>)
I was up in New England on a three day weekend drumming and singing in a friend's studio on Saturday in Rhode Island, then working the BAYCON model show on Sunday in Massachusetts. Wrapping up my weekend of fun was on Monday in Connecticut, admiring another good friend's unbelievable collection of AURORA HO slot cars, accessories, model kits, and other products.
Got a ride in his '66 Mustang GT Fastback and '63 Thunderbird Sports Roadster, with the top down on the T-Bird, of course!
Both of these cars were the grand prizes in the FORD AURORA Grand Nationals for Thunderjet 500 HO slot cars back in their respective years, as proven by their VIN tags and paper documentation.
Long Island Modified Tour Race this Saturday at STMS! See ya there... Ernie

Thanks for the post and the crisp photos, Bianco. Good job!
Had a great time last night, especially with the guys from Suffolk county driving west about an hour to race here in preparation for next Saturday's Long Island Asphalt Modified Tour series opening race. There was a lot of close racing during last night's event, with some nasty wrecks thrown in just to make it interesting!
My buddy Jack from the (commercial track) Slots-A-Lot Raceway hardbody road racing series just edged me out for the win.
He's proven himself a quick study with these cars and has come right up to speed in his first season of oval track racing, and he further endangered his "rookie" status last night by running a smart race for the victory lane trophy and photo. That yellow #4 was quick!
A 12 foot margin of victory after 258 laps is some really tight racing, and Wally was right there on our bumpers if either of us got out of shape in the last 2 1/2 minute heat. As you can see by the final lap scores, Willy, Pete, and Mike were all within striking distance
(lap times are in the low-mid 2 second range) if any of the leaders got involved in "The Big One" heading for the Checkered Flag!
After the Modified race...
We took some hot laps with a few different cars, then Tony ran a quick non points mixed chassis/motor setup hardbody race for five drivers. That was some fun racing, too -- with lots of styrene debris flying about after a couple of really hard hits! Big Pete took the win with his yellow AMT short track Petty Dodge Dart, I grabbed second with my black AMT "Modified Stockers" Falcon, and Pete drove my loaner primer red Revell '55 Chevy to third place. More quick fun before we all got out of there and let Tony get some sleep!
Looking forward to Saturday morning... Ernie :>)

Due to the holiday, and a family commitment for Tony which had us race on Tuesday night, we had a short 1/24 Modified grid this week.
Ran a good race without too many bad wrecks. These babies are finally gettin' dialed in... more next Monday.
Enjoy the "BIRD" !! -- Ernie

Cool vid of a fun looking track! I really like the one shot toward the beginning where you can see the banking effect of both ends of the track - pretty slick! :)
