Thanks for the post and the crisp photos, Bianco. Good job!
Had a great time last night, especially with the guys from Suffolk county driving west about an hour to race here in preparation for next Saturday's Long Island Asphalt Modified Tour series opening race. There was a lot of close racing during last night's event, with some nasty wrecks thrown in just to make it interesting!
My buddy Jack from the (commercial track) Slots-A-Lot Raceway hardbody road racing series just edged me out for the win.
He's proven himself a quick study with these cars and has come right up to speed in his first season of oval track racing, and he further endangered his "rookie" status last night by running a smart race for the victory lane trophy and photo. That yellow #4 was quick!
A 12 foot margin of victory after 258 laps is some really tight racing, and Wally was right there on our bumpers if either of us got out of shape in the last 2 1/2 minute heat. As you can see by the final lap scores, Willy, Pete, and Mike were all within striking distance
(lap times are in the low-mid 2 second range) if any of the leaders got involved in "The Big One" heading for the Checkered Flag!
After the Modified race...
We took some hot laps with a few different cars, then Tony ran a quick non points mixed chassis/motor setup hardbody race for five drivers. That was some fun racing, too -- with lots of styrene debris flying about after a couple of really hard hits! Big Pete took the win with his yellow AMT short track Petty Dodge Dart, I grabbed second with my black AMT "Modified Stockers" Falcon, and Pete drove my loaner primer red Revell '55 Chevy to third place. More quick fun before we all got out of there and let Tony get some sleep!
Looking forward to Saturday morning... Ernie :>)
