Dave,
Thanks. As usual its my pleasure. I love doing this stuff.
Bob - the '49 Merc was released in September '48. Clearly this photo was taken in October.
Gameover - I used a plain old white paper table napkin. I took one of the hard top Jags and covered it with Saran wrap so it didn't get wet, cut the napkin to size and soaked it in a 50/50 mix of white carpenters glue and water. Then I carefully draped it in place over the Saran wrapped car. It can be shaped fairly easily, but carefully so the wet paper doesn't rip. Let it dry for at least 24 hours then pull it away from the Saran. It does not stick at all to the Saran. I then spray painted it with a flat canvass colour.
The paper is fairly supple, but retains its shape once dry. The Jag it's covering is a roadster, not a hard top. I'm going to use the same technique for mechanic's fender protectors and oily rags.
Thanks for your interest folks. I do hope I'm not deviating too much for your liking from pure slots, but it's just a path I seem to be hooked on right now.
