Fly Panoz roadster - converted to rear motor

Always liked the Fly Panoz roadsters but never cared for the front engine drive line.

Saw others convert to rear motor with the Slot It inline pod, so I just got on to it.

Measured, temporarily positioned the new motor pod, drilled pod holes and then cut the chassis with a Dremel razor blade.



Played with different height spacers between the chassis and pod to get the desired wheel height. Used Slot It parts for the rest of the drivetrain - 25k motor, 9t pinion, 28t crown and 17 in. rims all around.

Salvaged the instrument panel, headrest, driver figure and steering wheel from the original full interior tray but obviously just a flat tray would do now.



Also, could now install single front axle rather than stubs which I prefer.

Turned out well.



Set the body loose on all four mounting screws and it runs just great on my twisty wood track. No need for additional weight.

Glad I got this going after sitting in the project box for years.

I have the "Spirit of Henderson Field" OD Green one and have always loved the car but never have been able to get it to perform.....I may just try the same surgery.

Nice work Dan. Great minds think alike as I did the red one some time back, too. The look of the front engined LMP works for me.
There was a spare chassis that came with the Slotit Sauber so I used that and some other bits that were lying around.
The front axle needed moving forward slightly.The rear wing also needed some work to fit. You can see I was into JB weld at the time.
I glued the splitter on and carved the chassis front to fit






The car now lies in a drawer minus wheels and some other bits stolen for other builds.

Munter: I've got a spare Panoz chassis, so your sidewinder app encourages me to try that. By the way, I'm getting one of your new Lotus Elite resins in TF1250's order. Already have a PCS chassis built up with Cartrix metal wire wheels ready to be fit.

Footscoot: Never thought about changing a Scaley so that's another project.

VTECFOUR, nice work! I see you have the rear magnet in the pod still and am encouraged by that. So tell me, what track do you run this on? Is it one with steel in the rails or ....

I just run on wood tracks and leave the magnets in unless I fill the space with lead weight.

Got so curious by Munter's sidewinder that I've just finished one. Stay tuned for a new thread.
