Retro,

That looks great, good job challenging yourself!

Is that a sidewinder motor bracket for an FF050 motor? If so, have you determined how wide is that car going to be?

I just read the posts about last year's series over the weekend, seems like the consensus was that performance was usually determined by car width, all other issues being equal. Dave, I read that you were considering two classes if entries were sufficient, but ended up keeping it simple the first year. Any thoughts on locking down the rules/classes if the series continues?

I've got that box of Shotgun Minis I need a recipe for!

They are CB Design 5 spoke racing wheels, but the final ones will probably be narrower, to make it look right.

One thing I just realized is that in all these pics there is not much indication of scale. The wheelbase is the same as a classic Mini body.

Retro,

Keeps looking better each time! You pointed out some changes you made - do you have any trouble with heat from one solder joint "unsoldering" adjacent joints? Are you using any heat sinks to avoid this?

The dimensional info is helpful. Are you using 1/16" brass tube or? Is it about 2-1/8" wide? is the overall weight confidential? :mrgreen:

(Does anyone know if Autograss always competed on oval courses? I thought I've seen photos of 70s British auto grass cars on rougher surfaces and more convoluted courses - maybe I'm confusing it with another British series? The so-called buggy class looks so much like an American off road buggy I wondered if there was an evolution? Maybe just a simpler version of a US sprint car, sans wings. )

JT, not so far. The solder on the other end holds the pieces in place, also the board is a bit of a heat sink itself, as are the long axles also.

Bibbster, withdraw from what? It won't be that formidable. I am already thinking of building another with a Devis3D sidewinder pod. The S-can is narrower than the slim can which should allow room for the pod.

That is nice!

Somebody built one on another, less popular, forum a year or two ago.

He put the sidewinder motor above the back wheels, and used thick brass for the floorpan to keep the weight low.

I just can't remember how he did the body panels, but I think he tried to epoxy into place strips of crisp (potato chip) packet; then found that the crisp packet fell out, leaving thin sheets of epoxy forming a perfect panel, which could then be painted.

I haven't put a link in because I don't like that forum very much.
