The depth of colour achieved with nail polish is staggering. What are you using for reducer? Just acetone free nail polish remover or something else?

Ember, I'm just using laquer thinner. Acetone will work, but if the temp where your spraying is high the acetone evaporate to fast and you end up spraying to dry. I will say spend the money foe good laquer thinner. The cheap stuff works but you get beter results with better reducer. Also experiment with air pressure and distansces sprayed from. This one I sprayed the base color about 4 to 5 inches from the car at about 25 lbs pressure. The over coat was done about 40 tp 45 lbs pressure at a distance of about 10 to 12 inches away and it was thinned roughly 30% color 70 percent reducer.I was going for more of the pearl and flake to to lay than color. Then I shot a semi wet coat at reduced pressure to get a touch of color. It went on a bit dry, but the clear helped level it out. By the way, My times in between different colors and initial coats of clear are roughly 1/2 an hour.Might not be right, but it works for me. The final clear coat goes on a few hours later. Hope this helps

Can you give any chemicals to watch out for in the reducer? Either to stay away from or to aim at? It's just that I've noticed a huge tendency to use the same name for completely different things between the various countries. eg) Interior acrylic wall paint can be called latex, vinyl, acrylic or simply 'water-based' depending on country.

Thanks John. Got to get some thinners for clean up from 2 part urethane clear, so I'll see what they have that is for lacquer based paints at the same time.

I use methylethylketone (MEK) to thin laquer. Hardware stores that sell Sunnyside products should have it. Acetone might be too strong of a solvent and may attack plastic. It also dries very quickly, so something with a higher boiling point might be better. Your best bet is to try any new paint/thinner combination on something expendable.

That was the concern, that it would attack the plastic. Will check the local paint supplier for MEK.

Use a good primer. Then a few mist coats. You don't want full coverage for several color coats. Build up in light coats. It shouldn't attack the plastic. Just take you time with it. As with anything, it is just a matter of experimenting to find what works for you

I hate to say it but you all are making it harder than it really is. Just jump in and do it. For video tutorials go to you tube. Thats how I learned to do it. Then as I have said just experiment. If you mess up a few bodies along the way then so be it. JUST GO FOR IT !!!!!!!!!!! :D

Not everyone has a few bodies to spare. And having seen what some thinners do to some plastics in no time flat, it seemed rather prudent to check what has been used successfully.
