Thanks; haven't done much outdoor shooting yet but it definitely seems to improve my (limited) photography skills. That gas filler sure looks bad in the close up, though! :roll:

Believe me, guys, that first shot was shear luck. I just set the diorama on the table, placed the vehicles, aimed and shot. I guess with as many problems as I've had shooting my cars, I was due, by shear weight of numbers, to get 1 good one! :mrgreen: Thanks for the compliments.

I have the same Pioneer car and would like to make a replica livery out of it, and the same goes for the #46 Scalextric Castrol Camaro of Frank Gardner. Neither of these cars actually raced in Trans Am.

Did you strip the Pioneer body or paint over the gold & black and decals?

I know the preferred way to go is soak the body in brake fluid till the paint and decals come off, but the one time I tried that with a Monogram NASCAR I ended up soaking it for 3 days and still didn't get a clean start.

For these repaints I'm thinking of just painting over the existing liveries, with a grey base coat, and then the desired colors (red for the Mustang and bright orange for the Camaro). Anyone else done that?

Sure.

Most times soaking in 90% Alcohol will strip a Scaley. But you can just wet sand the body as is, shoot some primer and repaint.

I don't recommend brake fluid for anything but brakes, get it? Use 91% isopropyl alcohol, check it from time to time and just push the paint off with your thumb. Once you get through the clearcoat Scaley uses with a few scratches of sandpaper, it comes right off.

I soaked it overnight in alcohol and then took a toothbrush to it. After that I washed in Dawn and warm water, primed it and shot it. This is the second Pioneer I've stripped like this and the paint seems to come off easily, if memory serves Scaleys are a little tougher and PowerSlots and Flys are nearly impossible. As stated, stay away from the brake fluid!
