Bugeye build 6

Postby VTECFOUR » Fri Jul 04, 2014 12:49 pm

Still got Bugeye fever and have started on number 6, my fattest one to date.

As usual, I started out with a chassis, a Reprotec Fiat Abarth one stolen from my red PRS Mini pick up to be replaced by a scratchbuilt brass one. Nicely equipped with Slot It 21K motor, Slot It 9:27 gears, Ranch Design rims, Paul Gage tires and Ninco spring guide.

Image

Marked off body sides with narrow masking tape, the maximum area to apply 5 minute fast setting two-part epoxy and placed wheel arch masking tape platform.

Image

Started applying epoxy that flows and settles nicely.

Image

Image

Placed body on rolling chassis to set filing contour limits.

Image

First rough filing results.

More filing and sanding.

Getting closer to primer.

Looks wide enough to go to the new max in a certain proxy, eh?

Keep 'em coming, Dan

Thanks for the positives.

Got some filler on and did the cockpit cover opening.

Image

Don't think that I'll send this to a proxy. It'll have the kit's miniscule front signal and tailights and I'd be hurting if those got knocked off and lost during racing.

Wouldn't send Bugeye Build 2 for this reason.

Image

If inclined, I'd send this built up Munter resin one, a bit tougher with less small bits attached.

More progress. Test fitted a driver figure, installed a hoop rollbar and support out of .072 brass rod and did more sanding. Close to first primer coat.

Second primer coat on after a bit of putty and lots of sanding.

Image

Ready for final coat, so I'm thinking orange accented with double gold or silver stripes.

Getting there.

Got a couple of coats of Tamiya TS-12 orange on. That turned out pretty bright.

Image

Will follow with some coats of Future finish and a gold or silver double racing stripe down the middle.

Done! Got the detail stuff on (rollbar, driver figure, grille, headlights, tail lights, licence plate light) and applied gold Pactra trim tape.

It's my widest Bugeye as you can see the progression in the dark blue, yellow, white and orange builds.

Image

That's enough wide Bugeyes. I've got one Airfix kit left and that'll be a completely stock car.

Later.
