Wheel Inserts?

I saw a post, where one of our members, replaced the wheel inserts on a Slot.it, Toyota 88C using 5 spoke inserts from SCC. I would like to give that a try myself but, since mine is a brand new car, and I've never done wheel inserts before, I was wondering, how hard is this to do? What tools/supplies do I need? What do I need to watch out for? And, is there any place I can find step by step instructions? I have no (or very little), creativity, but I can follow instructions, for the most part. Any and all help will be appreciated.

You are welcome. But let me go further, just because I have more time :)

1st question people ask in emails is: " Do I need a Tire Razor or other machine?"

The answer is no. That is, if you are very talented and can cut them out by hand. I have used other tools/methods and the job is very tedious and most times they never came out how I liked.

And there are very talented people who do it all the time by hand. I am just not one of them. I have a lathe here that I use for years until I bought a tire machine. Simply tools I need to get the job done. Not cheap, but I am willing to spend the money because of my level of addiction :)

Today you can find inserts from just about anywhere and making your own becomes less critical. Slot.it and NSR among others also make inserts. They are made for their wheels but most times these are what you want. MT Racing makes some inserts that are drop-ins as well.

However, I can only advise that if you are going to start doing custom work that a tool like this is something worth investing in. Nothing gives me the precision I like more than a lathe/tire machine type setup. So if you can afford one, it's a good idea.

I'm sorry I used the "insert" word. In reality, it is actually wheels that I'm looking for.

And, since you have the time (lol), could I bug you, or anyone else that sees this, to ask what I need to install these new wheels, i.e. any tools, etc.? Do the old wheels just pull off the axels? Believe it or not, I've installed a light kit, installed brass bushings on the front end of a Fly Ferrari 365 GTB, etc. but, I've never removed a wheel from its axle. And yup, since this happens to be a brand new car, I'm a little skeered! :o

Wait a minute...I should have said, I haven't removed a wheel from an axle, that I can remember! I'm guessing that I pretty much had to remove at least one front wheel on that Fly Ferrari to that bushing job....DUH. :oops:

OK. Seeing as you're working with a Slot.it it's a simple case of removing the wheels and just installing the CB Design ones. You'll need an M2 allen/hex key for the job, but it'll be the same size as the Slot.it one, so an easy job.

Look on the bottom of the crystal case, Slot.it. is including an allen wrench on some kits taped to the bottom. Hope yours is one of them.
