Just the right amount of caffeine and a fine (000) sable brush. :D

You could try a strip of tape or decal paper coloured/painted the colour you want.

You could also try a very fine pen - e.g. nano liners

or Pigma http://www.sakuraofamerica.com/Pen-Archival - I haven't used either of these pens - but plan to try them if I can find a source in Australia.

For that kind of thing I just use 1/64 inch tape. Be sure to coat it in clear to secure it.

Really, for something as small as a helmet a brush is a lot less fuss. I did a paint job on a Scalex driver for a friend becaus Scaelx didn't put the chequered band around Innes Ireland's helmet on their Ferrari GTO. Brush and toothpick. Quick and simple.

I'm with Lynne , small brush and toothpick, or a pin. Works great, I did a Jackie Stewart helmet band using the method Lynne described.

My vote would be small brush and or toothpick!! I have also used a technique where you dip the part into the paint, then dip again into the main item color. It sounds complicated, but it does make smooth and sharp fine lines. I have used this many times on aircraft models, to paint very fine stripes on bombs and missiles and other parts.

Hi Geno
Can't help with painting but can get you Neville Lederle's contact details. He is a good friend of my brother.
Keen to see the finished project.
Richard.

I usually use colored Sharpies for fine lines. You still need a steady hand, though.

A brush is actually more forgiving than a felt tipped pen would be. You have some shock absorption in the bristles, so less tremor will transfer to the finished product.

Airbrush it, and use very light coats to avoid seepage.
