Here is my situation:
I run digital so a digital chip and PG tires go on the car. I don't change out the motor. Can't afford any further money in the car. However, I use SSDC software with the Scalextric 6 car advanced power base (APB). This way I can slow down the motor for each driver, not requiring a motor change.
As for the placement of the digital chip, I hot glue it to the motor just above the magnet. There is so little room in the car and this seems to work well. Not sure how it affects float but the cars run very well.
