Corvette racer finished

This is an Otaki 1/24 scale model kit mounted on a Carrera Breadvan chassis. The decals were picked up from e-bay. The stripes over the wheels did not fit due to the rear wheel flares, so I had to modify them a bit. The rear axles are from a Carrera GS Corvette. They are a lot wider but fit the wide rear end on this car.

I wanted something that raced in the same time frame as the 917 Porsche cars. This livery was on the track at the time, based on internet research.

Looking forward to the next race to see how it does. Right now all of my 1/24 cars are pretty equal and turn a good time of about 7.6 seconds. This will just be another one to put on the track and have fun.

That is just plain super deluxe!!! Never heard of Otaki before. Can you find these on ebay? If not where did you pick it up from? Out of interest how wide is the car across the front and rear fenders? How wide is the front and rear track, outside edge to outside edge? Also Im not too good on my Corvettes, what year model is that car? Ive got an Arii 1968 Corvette that I will eventually do up as a LeMans car. It ran in 68 and 69. Trouble is the Arii model didnt come with flared fenders as per the LeMans car.

Otaki used to make a lot of 1/24 kits and they came with a motor and place to put batteries. For this reason the interior tray is shorter and works pretty well as a slot car foundation. It is just easier than cutting down the interior to fit over the digital chip and other bits. At first I tried using the tires, gears, and motor that came with the kits. This works OK, but not as well as swapping it out for another car chassis. I know some of the kits were re-issued under various names after the company went under. Some of the re-issues simply took out the electric motor and gears but are the same kit otherwise.

This kit does not say what year it is, but I am pretty sure it is a 69. It has the flares, higher rear spoiler, and front air dam. It also had a wind deflector for in front of the windshield that I did not install. They sell 2 versions of this kit. One comes with numbered decals and this one comes with snow skis and a surfboard. No idea what to do with those!

The decals I picked up on e-bay are from a car that supposedly raced in all 3 of the big events in 69 or 70. Sebring, Daytona and LeMans. Someone else knows a lot more about this than me, I just wanted something somewhat authentic.

I get some kits off e-bay. I also am lucky enough to live near a local hobby shop that specializes in OOP model kits. I know he has the race version of this left on the shelf as of the last time I was in. If you are interested send me a PM and I will give you his e-mail address. I think he has a couple thousand kits in stock.

I will post some dimensions for you after I get some measurements.
