We do something similar, an idea our guy Rocky had. Its a routed block of MDF that has the copper tape wrapped around the ends all the way underneath. There are non-conductive locator pins to slip into the slot of a lane, and sandpaper in the usual spot at the end. We just share the block up and down the driver's stations, with each driver plopping it down on his lane and then passing it on. Works great. When you are running stock tires, its essential.

I made them like this instead of one that sets on the track to reduce the amount of "marbles" on the track.

Wow, I used to use sandpaper on the tires and everything else back in the 60's to get traction on the wood track dad had made for me....By the way I remember it was unpainted particle board...I used STP for track glue with those soft tires and lighter fluid to clean the tires.....

Getting into this type of slot cars....
It will be hard getting used to this type of track conditioning....

Mix a little silica in with the paint and roll it on the corners....that would grind some urethane-silicone-rubber onto the track.....
