Good idea Ember. I did use pencil shavings, but they were probably more wood than graphite.

A quick spray of hairspray would work as a fixitive for the graphite. I use it on pencil sketches rather than the more expensive artist fixitive which is essentially the same thing.

Ember - it also had a sheen to it that I found unconvincing. Perhaps a bit of charcoal or conte might be better. What do you think?

Conte possibly better than charcoal.

I thought the graphite might be suitable for standing oil. I've seen a lot of concrete floors with quite a sheen to them, but it is hard to get the mix just right, I know.

I actually have a concrete floor that I made fora diorama (another that I must get back to) which was done with rock dust mixed with tinted plaster. Sanded smooth on drying it looks very real.

The rock dust idea is good, however, I need to keep things flexible as I use it for different sized cars in various positions. The floor covering is just a piece of paper with a slit cut for the guide. I have several different papers with different slots.

I know this is going to be another beauty.

The change in the track is quite surprising, isn't it. I certainly will not regret painting mine.

and a pink frame to boot! (oops, that's in the back on a british car.)
it looks pretty good like that, though. one vote for leaving it like it is.

Unfortunately I forgot to order the spare, so completion has been delayed. However, it has given me an opportunity to experiment with a new diorama - something simple in the deco mode. I hope it works.

Peter - I was showing a guy at work your art - he wanted me to pass along that he was completely blown away once he realized it wasn't real!

Thanks David. I appreciate that. I've come up with something completely different for my new Atalante which I hope you'll like. Just waiting for the spare wheel so I can complete it.
