I always thought that it would be fairly simple to drill and tap the caps for a small set screw, and adjust the height micro-style. Just push the caps down as far as they will go to begin, then get one side where you want it, and bring the other side up to match. I even considered that in combination with a motor pod, there could be a slight variance to bias toward one side or the other, depending on the track. More tight rights- biased one way, and vice versa. We usually just limit the vertical travel by inserting plastic tube under the axle, but we could do more if it would give a decent result.

I replace the original front axle holders with the adjustable ones sold by Slot Car Corner. If you run your cars without magnets front axle height is very important and using those makes it easy to get the setup right.
