There is a profound tranquility about a vacant warehouse space and yet it seems to openly embrace the outside world.
The project seemed simple at the outset, but everything required a jig to construct in a plum and level fashion. I tried a really, really tiny spirit level, but I couldn't see the bubble. I attempted to dado the risers, but there simply wasn't enough material to work with. The stairs were aged with tea and a solution of oxidized steel wool and vinegar. Treads were individually scuffed for a wear pattern. Tomorrow I lay individual planks for the loft floor which is supported by a triple 2 X 10 beam and 2 X 10 joist 24" OC. Stair rails are piano wire - 1/16" I think.
