modify black box?

I was wondering. Has anyone relocated the controller plug housing to a different spot on the table? My layout will be so that a banked straight is on the controller end of the table. Can the box be removed from the track and relocated? I did this with an analog track a long time ago. I actually put one at each end of the table so we could marshal from each end. But is it easily possible with digital? I haven't seen my track in a couple years but I am about to set her back up.

Have you considered extension cables for the controllers,maybe the new 2.4ghz wireless?

I re-did my layout so the box lays flat but I still want the wireless its just beyond my budget.
