Gofer Racing decal report

Finding decals in our hobby is not that difficult. Finding QUALITY decals is another story.

Here is a quick look on a brand that I discovered a couple years ago that has really increased their product selection and thought to pas on a few thoughts.

Too many enthusiasts have written in saying how the decals they purchased were very poor quality and almost unusable. Either the printer does not use enough ink to create opaque, rich color finishes or the thickness is so thin that they literally break apart when you try to work with them.

Another challenge is simply finding numbers & sponsors for those "fantasy" type models many of us enjoy building.

Finally, what about those of us who model in both 1/24 and 1/32? We have good vendors such as Patto's Place and Slotcars4u that make good quality decals, but sometimes we just want numbers and sponsors for our own Saturday Night Specials.

For those who have the equipment and talent to create your own "kit quality" decals, this all means very little.

For the rest of us it means a lot.

Recently I have spoken with decal makers here in the USA and discovered that there are great quality decals out there that not only are affordable, they have the quality we are looking for. And to make things even better, some of these decals that are marked for 1/24 are also compatible in size for various 1/32nd projects.

Gofer Racing is one such manufacturer.

I purchased several sheets based on the fact they were just numbers & sponsors.

The real bonus is that some of these numbers will work for some of our 1/32 models.

This is an example of the sheet next to a Carrera NASCAR.

I tested how opaque the white markings would be along with ease of use and strength. I sprayed a section of sheet plastic with a mix of fire red from Rust-Oleum and standard orange and this should be a good test.

This is about as good ask you can ask for. Literally zero-bleed through, making those white markings "pop" like they should.

They are thin enough for good results over uneven areas using a little Microsol like you would with any other decal. And strong to work with. I slid the decal off using no extra spray over the sheet for strength.

Very nice selection with a touch of humor to make any stock car look the part.

The price is fair too. $10.00 for most sheets and that gives you a lot of cars to work with. Some numbers sheets you might need doubles of to get that 3rd decal for the roof, but even then you can get 15 cars done for 20 bucks. That is more than fair to me considering how many single sheets I have bought only to just use the numbers.

I am very happy with these decals. No, they are not for exact scale replicas of certain cars, but those I can get elsewhere when the project calls for them. In most cases I enjoy creating my own schemes to mimic what I grew up with at the local dirt track.

Good product all around.

I just picked up one of these sheets for my midget this past Friday. My local hobby shop has a display of like eight different sheets of theirs. All decals look crisp, and some of them are downright funny! They also have a full sheet of license plates for those interested. They're $8.99 per sheet at my local place. Good stuff.

Thanks for the review - especially the 1:32 comparison! I see some of these coming home.
