Porsche 550-Updated 8, October

Postby jmsh54 » Thu Sep 26, 2013 5:18 pm

Well this body came across the pond from a gentleman who lives in Sherburn Village, Durham England, U.K. This is the 4th casting I have gotten from him.

Image

It is a very nice casting with not much clean up. Have to remove the cast on head lights, make a windscreen of sorts and some other small detail parts. Casting is a pretty good match in size for the Maisto die cast.

Have gotten a start on the chassis which will look very much like this one.

Although I think I am going to swap out the motor for a MT Ninco type motor. Picked up two of these and have been looking for a project to use them in.

Same gentleman who cast the Porsche did the MGA and TR3 that I did back some time ago.

The 550 is a nice car....I expect the same high standard will continue here as I have seen previously from jmsh54 and judging by the chassis shot and those other builds it will be.

I must ask about the rear bracket....who? where? how much?

John, Professor Motor is indeed the place to look. The bracket is part number, PMTR1006 FORGED brass bracket for 1/32 or 1/24 scratch building. Regards, John

Well I made some progress here. Built up a brass chassis which runs quite well. The bad news is that the motor sat just enough high on the motor bracket that the Porsche body was not going to sit low enough. The whole thing, body and chassis sort of teetered back and forth. So that chassis will go to another project. Went to plan B and came up with this chassis which needed some cutting and grinding to get the wheel length correct. Still need to swap out the guide and add a second pair of nuts and bolts to secure the chassis halves. It is a MRRC chassis.

Got the body pretty much cleaned up. Not sure if I will remove the cast on headlights and make my own or not. The cast on ones are a bit oval so I may have to experiment there. But body has a good fit to the chassis.

This chassis swap worked out fine as now this Ferrari that has been sitting on the work bench unfinished for quite some time with the exact same chassis except for the wheels will now have a running mate. Regards, John
