I have never seen an SCX lap counter track, but I presume that they have microswitches built into them that are tripped by the car's guide flags. If you were using an old computer with a game port, serial port or printer port all you would need is to wire the microswitches to the appropriate plug, perhaps a DB-9 or DB-25 type. There are instructions on the HO Slot Car Racing website in the Electronics section for the right pins to use with a game port, serial or printer connection. I expect that you have a newer computer that lacks any of these inputs. It is possible to buy a serial to USB adapter. Radio Shack sells one as their catalog # 26-949. These are not just a plain cable, they include some electronics and a driver must be installed to make it work. There are many different makes of these adapters available and not all of them may work properly. Some people have tried several adapters before they found one that worked. The path of least resistance is really to find an old computer with game, serial and parallel (printer) ports and use that.
