Carrera digital 132 on a 4x8 layout

Hello all. I am brand new here and brand new to slot cars. Before I purchase my first set, I'm looking for some guidance.

I've found a really nice deal on a Carrera digital 132 Streamline set (http://www.amazon.com/Carrera-32-Digita ... B004OBY87M). By the way, I'm not buying it through Amazon. I've found a much better deal from a LHS, but there is the link for reference.

Also, I have a Mac, so I can't use any of the track layout software that I've seen.

My issue is that I want to set up a 4x8 layout until I can arrange for a larger space to make a bigger layout. But through my research, I've discovered that the Carrera tracks are much larger than the other 1:32 tracks. All the searches I've done bring back 4x8 layout results with Scaletrix and other brands, but I'm having a harder time finding Carrera layouts examples at that size. So can I set up a decent layout with a pit lane on a 4x8? A 5x9 would be the absolute maximum that I can go in size at the moment, but I'd really like to stick with 4x8 if at all possible.

Any guidance and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

With Carrera track it would be tough to get much more than an oval with maybe a chicane on one side on a 4x8. One side of your track would have to be all straight if you plan on using the pitlane because it takes up 3 feet of straight by itself. With the pitlane I would also recommend one straight section before the pitlane changer to be sure and have the car straight so it would trigger the sensor so that would make at least 4 feet of straight.

If you want to go digital I recommend Carrera because I think it has a lot of good features especially when you decide to start upgrading the track with more accessories.

Carrera track, hands down. 4x8 is kind of tough.

Thanks for the feedback! I was kind of afraid that might be the answer. That 3x10 looks interesting. I might try to find access to a PC and play around with the layout.

In the meantime, if I were to upscale to 5x9, is that more feasible? Are there any good examples of Digital Carrera 132 with a pitlane on 5x9 someone can link me to?

Yes I believe that Bruce at cincyslots has Carrera track plan you can find the link to his place on the portal page Bruce could hook you up with a nice layout.
