There was a scaleauto radical which place 4th overall in the race. These have chassis which are virtually identical and are compatible with the gt1's. They do not allow for a sidewinder setup which has shown to have a handling advantage over anglewinder or inline setups.

In my opinion you could have picked several cars to run in this enduro race Slot.it Nissan, Mclaren, Sideways DP cars, possible a Scaleauto Radical, Clover Leaf Racing had a 8 week series to race & test these cars but that was Sprint racing anyone can and did win at any given night. One of the reasons the teams picked to run the car with a Sidewinder setup over a inline or anglewinder is it is less strain on the gears. So the Scaleauto Radical was not considered to low a rear deck lid to accept a sidewinder this also applys to the LMP cars, not to say a well prepared Radical could not make it through 24hrs one team car did & the Atlanta, Georgia Boys set a World Record with this car back a few years ago in Chicago.

Yeah Dave, the Toyota GT1 is the car we drove to the record in Chicago with an inline setup. It's an excellent car, for sure. There are plenty of excellent cars out there that could be used for this.

You should have seen the gear teeth on that thing at the end of the race. They were needle points, kind of like shark teeth. They didn't have much left in them, that's for sure. At the time it felt like this car (the Toyota GT1) had gone as far as it could be taken, and to break the record again would require a different car. Sidewinder gears have always seemed to be a better choice to me, when it comes to running a car this hard for 24 hours.

Speaking of darkness, did you know that our team uniform was made especially for 24-hour races? The black part represents the darkness hours of the race and the yellow represents the sun before and after the darkness.

I am no pro. Clearly.

But barring a mechanical failure....I think the credit goes to all of you who drive and tune them.

It also tells the enthusiast that you know how to set up a car and that many of these models, regardless of brand can be very competitive.

Brand name means little if you do not apply the correct technique. The highest dollar parts/car/controller in the world isn't going to win if the racer behind it has a skill level like.....me. :)

So as I see it, the model/brand are one thing but the people behind the controller and working the setup blocks make them perform.

Kudos to all of you.

Mike is clearly on a different level than 99% of us when it's time to set up a car. He also pretty much always knows what to do to correct a specific problem with it. As drivers, we just tell him how the car feels in a specific part of the track and he will pick it up, work his magic and give us a better car to drive. That comes with years of experience and hours and hours of tuning and testing each car.

As in F1, the car is a very important part of the equation. Once it's on the track, it's up to the drivers to take care of the car. Driving it at 100% (or 110%) for 24 hours can't be done. All overdriven cars will fail before the end of the race. Having a well-prepared car is great because you can drive it at 95% and still have a very fast car that will make it to the end.

If we would have had to take our car off the track for anything else than changing tires or general cleaning/lubrication, this record would not have been broken. That just shows how important saving the car is in a 24-hour race. With Mike's cars, saving it and going fast can both be achieved at the same time. :clap:
