GT3 Proxy 2020_Edition_build thread

I know you have been sitting on the edge of your seats, waiting for me to provide an update, so here is my final, final post. I matched my Grp 5 car's lap time (current time, not Q from race) and I am almost happy! The car is a long way from done and being "race winning" competitive, but I now finally have a platform to build on!

Nothing particularly special about my Merc build. It is light, wide, and low. It is very sensitive to whatever tire I put on it. I have about three sets I have been swapping between my potential cars and only one set seems to work really well on the Merc.

I am giving one last go to get my BRASSton up to speed. I was having problems with it handling differently in left and right hand turns. The chassis was flat and everything seemed good. But then I saw the post about this potentially being a problem with the first generation CG printed pods.....and the new ones have updated strengthening in the bushings supports because of this. So I braced mine up by gluing some piano wire in there...

Hopefully that will get it back on pace or even faster than the Merc, or at least get me back to where I can do some tuning on it and see if I can get it to the top of my heap.

OK, actually make that "T-Day"!

Luf is packing up his Targa track this weekend so this is my last chance for testing on the track where I have lap time data for pretty much all my cars. I have arranged to go there tomorrow morning: showtime!

I have the Scaleauto Corvette, I have the Sideways Huracan and the NSR Merc. I have my Gp5 Capri to take along to serve as benchmark. And my Sideways BMW 320 that I was also considering for last year's Gp 5 proxy as one more check.

I have urethanes on a couple of cars. I have wide NSR tyres, I have narrow NSR tyres. I have Supergrips, I have Ultragrips. I just prepared a set of Supergrips that look too pretty to get dirty on the track!

The hour of truth is upon me... and I am not confident.

Well Chris, the harsh reality is that, if I cannot get one of these cars to be a) significantly faster than my Capri and b) turn a lap under 6 seconds on the Targa, it is going to be a loooong proxy! ANOTHER long proxy.... :pray:

Forget the news, I now have EVERY REASON to go to Canada or to Dariuz' place for food. You guys are making amazing progress, I pray I can qualify for this thing. I've narrowed it down to 2 cars and I have 1 maybe 2 more opportunities to test before our due date. I don't think I will have my 991 ready to test by October due to work, family, sponsor shopping etc. Currently my C6R has emerged as the front runner as I believe with 2 mods I can get 2/10ths more out of it. The Porsche still needs a little work, it's WAAY faster in a straight line than the C6, but currently gives it up in the corners as it's tougher to drive consistently. I have placed the C7R on the sidelines but it will be available for sale AFTER we start the proxy.

Testing here in Edmonton is on hold now. We are prepping some more surprises for this and next year. I can only build one car this year and I will be glad if I will qualify. Good to be here again... :banana-dance:

Last week there was a GT3 Scaleauto championship race in Italy, part of a series of events across Europe. They raced on the new Scaleauto plastic track and thus comparison with our event is limited.

Here are the entries by type of car, I believe a team running a Corvette won:

I was happy with my car in regards to lap times but when I did the true test of a 3 minute time trial I was down 1 lap compared to my Group 5 car. Multiply that by three heats and I know I have lots of work to do. I actually was not surprised as I did not have the confidence in some key corners I can feel the car slip. I have a number of laps I want to achieve in my head but can I get there is another story!
