On paper, sandwiched between Mike Lengel and Becker, Greenawalt looked like a long-shot to take the USAC sprint event, but the Lancaster Tornado was fast from the start, collecting four firsts and a second in his segments. Homer Hiester became the best of the rest, four markers down, to grab the runner-up spot by a point over Dave Balloch and two ahead of Becker. Trevor Kobylarz rounded out the top five in the 50 lap race.
Becker's win in the USAC midget nightcap wasn't quite so easy. Unexpectedly finding some competition from Balloch on his inside, Becker struggled a bit, gathering a few wrecks during the 50 lapper. Nevertheless, Becker had enough when it counted to earn a two-point victory over a fine performance by Dave Kurtz. Greenawalt was a notch behind for third place with Balloch taking fourth. Lengel edged hard-luck driver of the evening, Chuck Heller, via tie-breaker for fifth.
