Kudos to Scalextric USA

Postby svanaken » Fri Mar 22, 2013 2:34 pm

I am a fan of Scalextric cars as they usually run great right out of the box and once I remove the magnet and reshoe them with silicones, they have a long lasting life at my track.

Recently, I bought one of their Ford GT GTRs. A wheel on the the rear axle had been so poorly installed, that it was grossly off center and made the car a real pig to run. Though not part of the mechanicals, one of the mirrors had also broken away. An e-mail to Hornby and then Scalextric USA describing the situation got a promise of a replacement rear axle assembly. To my surprise, about a week later, an entire new car arrived as a replacement. Now that is service. Naturally, one of the hold downs for the front lights was broken, but it is nothing major.

I have to give kudos to Hornby for their service and really suggest that their factory in China do a better job of QA as the number of small glitches like this are on the rise.

They did the same for me a while back when a car arrived with a cracked chassis. Was only expecting a replacement chassis but they sent a whole new car. Only thing is I still had a car with a cracked chassis to fix. ;) I too like the way Scaleys take to a wood track, much better than some other brands.

I also had a similar experience with Scalextric when I bought the green and white classic Mini. It had a crooked rear wheel and would hop down the track without magnet. An email to Scalextric resulted in a brand new Mini a few days later. Unfortunately, the replacement Mini had two crooked wheels.

I ended up buying a replacement axle for one and plan to eventually try some Ranch Design wheels on the other. I still give their customer service high marks though.
