Toyota S800 Coupe build 2

Built my first fat-arched Coupe years ago and thought now's the time to build another of my favorite scratch builds.



Gathered pieces and started assembling one of my standard FF050-motored adjustable wheel base chassis for small cars.



As on my other S800 builds, soldered simulated exhaust pipes onto the chassis flexy side pans for modeling detail. Thanks to the late Marty Stanley for that suggestion.



Should be rolling after Christmas Day dinner tonight.

Chassis's rolling, powered by a Scalextric Sport 25k motor and geared with a BWA 9t pinion and Slot It 28t crown.







Runs just fine.

Mocked the body on.







Looks pretty close to the final stance.

Body mounting to come and then wheel arch filing and tire trueing.

Nice work.....those huge flares really allow some serious meat on the rears.

That is cool Dan, love these builds.
I have the boots picked out for mine (1/24 kit), gotta decide between wire and brass or pod and pan, beautiful job dude. Is that a boxer laying in there?!?!
My biggest holdup besides time is doing up the flares.

@FC47 - I always use FF050 slimline motors for my small car builds. Alongside a Scalextric Mustang, you get an idea of the size and room you're dealing with.



This particular 25K motor is a bit of overkill but that's what I had in the parts bin. The fat rear meats are over the top too but it works for me.

Body's mounted now with just enough wheel arch/tire clearance.





On bodies that have some fender flare to spare, I mount the body right down so tires are touching and THEN file for clearance. Works well when the circumstances allow.

Moving on with body cosmetics.

That is a tight package, are those the 761 tires on it?

The shots you posted helped. Made me think. Folks posted about plastic spoons for flares, I took one of those pop open plastic Easter eggs, bandsawed each half...got em cut down carved and fitted close to what I want...ways to go but on the way...

@ FC47 - Yep, those are urethane copies of the Fly March F1 rear tires. Really like the bulging sidewall detail on these.

Sprayed on Tamiya fine white primer on to reveal the body deficiencies.







Final paint will be white with blue on the front and rear valences, hood and rear deck.

Front and rear tracks have been narrowed to better tuck in the tires.

Modeling finished.

- Sprayed Tamiya TS15 Blue followed by TS51 Racing Blue and semi-gloss coated to finish.
- Applied decals from Proto Slot and Revell-Monogram sheets.
- Paint detailed windscreen surrounds, tail lights, headlamp covers, bonnet and trunk hinges, Aston gas cap and exhaust pipes.
- Cut, painted and taped flat paper interior tray and glued on detailed half-driver resin figure.
- Glued in vac-form front and rear windscreens.













Very pleased with the modeling and running condition.
