I don't have a front motored Cobra - but I do enjoy running my front motored Corvettes!
We are racing without magnets, so my experience may not be the same as yours if you are running with magnets though.

In regard to the addition of brass, most likely that was done to help lower the center of gravity - much the same as adding lead. Brass is non-magnetic, so again, if you are racing with magnets, it won't offer any additional "holding power", but will make the car heavier, with a lower center of gravity, so it can be advantageous.
:)
Enjoy your new addition!

what are the pros and cons with a driveshaft car

I don't think there are any pros. I change mine to rear motor with 3D Printed chassis and they run great.

OK, Thanks Gents , it really is the first driveshaft car I have seen , all the others I have are pinion and crown gear types, just trying to get as much info I can

Funny, I have a piece of scaley track and it seams like it wants to stay like it is magnetized to it, maybe that isn't brass but it sure looks like it, but maybe you are right to lower the center of gravity of the car, hug the corners better

But I will be changing the color of the car , right now it is a metallic blue with white racing stripes , not sure what color just yet because I have a few to choose from but will change it to something different. Happy slotting everyone

And really haven't been racing as of yet, my plans are to build a Scalely track that is wireless that will fit on a 8' X 6' table, can run 6 cars at the same time, and with looking thru all of the different web sites I have seen a lot of different things done, from a three lane table that was lowered from a garage ceiling with a truck winch, so if I build the table and place it in the corner of the room should fit just fine

Fathead59 - I've bought lots of RM Greenwood Corvettes over the years, basically to steal the axles for dirt modified replicas I was building. I fell in love with the black and chrome wheels, especially the beefy rear ones that can be outfitted with silicone tires. Then, after awhile I had a bunch of spare front engine chassis lying around so I found other wheels and axles to fit them and haven used them for mounting a lot of different bodies on. Most have ended up under Lindberg or SnapTite model bodies, and they work well on my routed oval with copper tape. While I don't see an advantage to having a front engine slot car except how it allowed RM to have a detailed interior in the Corvettes, I don't see any disadvantages either for general home racing. If I think a car will benefit from some extra rear weight I add a little clay to the chassis alongside the driveshaft right in front of the rear tires.

Dose the clay add enough weight to matter, or is it better to use the lead that I have seen on other web sites, the self stick type

Then it might be just for ballast to give it a lower center of gravity

I can add a fair amount of weight with clay, and since I run these cars on my oval I can play around with adding & subtracting if I want a left side bias for better handling. Probably can get more weight in the rear part of the chassis with the lead stuck on, but I didn't have any when I started re-purposing these front engined chassis.

When he was about 12 years old my grandson was racing one of these cars when it started making an odd noise and stopped moving. When I took it apart the spring connecting the motor shaft and drive shaft had broken and I had to use some small plastic tubing to repair it. For the next few weeks he was constantly bragging about having driven the car so hard he snapped the drive shaft. It's the only one that's failed so far.

The reason I am asking about the drive shafts is because I as able to get a set of Monogram cars that all have drive shafts, nice set of cars, and they are the only ones I have seen with drive shafts. Just trying to get all the info I can on this type of car. The first one I got I was planing on stripping it down and re-painting it, but now that I have two more with the same coloring I will leave them be. Maybe use the Molotow chrome pens to a little detail work to them. And do not worry, not planning on dunking them in future just yet. There was another portal that was talking about those pens and the future floor wax.All I am looking for is the pros and cons for driveshaft cars.
