AVS Shadow Mk. 1

Was going to hold off on starting another build as others are on the go but couldn't resist this one.

Spurred on by a Changing Gearz AVS Shadow Mk. 1 low line body from Retro Racer 44's slot car estate.



Will be modeled on the Road & Track August 1969 cover car.



Always been fascinated by this Can Am series car.

Thats the 1st Shadow body I made! It had some issues - so I had asked Keith to swap it out during the Can-AM Proxy round in Canada. He had asked me so many questions on it - I just said keep it. I know he was really looking forward to building it up.

Keith had asked me about front tires for it at one point.... They are a bit rare and I worked on getting him a set...... Long story short is - the week he passed away I received another batch of tires for it.
If you want the same wheel/tires I use - just PM with an address.

@ Matt - So that's the background story on why Keith had this. It wasn't the usual car that he gravitated to. Thanks for the wheel/tire offer.

@ Shotgun Dave - Well, it's such a quirky body that I had to get it rolling. Besides, I'm shooting for GVSCC's newly created Keith Hines Constructor's Series trophy in our present race series. He was the first guy to scratch build in the club so this is a lasting tribute to him.

Got an adjust-o-wheelbase chassis done with the Devised Designs slimline motor pod.



Rolling on old Ranch Design 1/43 aluminum rims/tires at the front and custom Ranch Design rims/March 761 F1 urethane tires out back.

Fit styrene sheet in the cockpit opening with more to come. Had to re-radius the front wheel arches to clear the rims.





Going fine so far.

One of my favorite components of the real car was the bazooka-shaped motor intake. The R & T cover illustration provided a template to model from. With aluminum tubes, styrene tubing and strip and fast setting epoxy, I came up with this.



Needs some finishing putty but close.

Couldn't wait and test fitted in the body. Works for me.

Gotta say, I was looking forward to seeing "the cannon" and I would say it's a great job.
This is a wonderful example of a unique car. Great to see it!

Got the cockpit done with more styrene, epoxy, putty and wire to get a raised lip. Filled and sanded elsewhere so ready for primer.



Light gray Tamiya primer sprayed on nicely.
