Styrene chassis camera car

I want to build a camera car for our digital tracks. It doesn't have to be the best for racing, just stable and strong enough to carry a GoPro on the front ahead of the guide and behind the rear tires.

Simple plan is to glue an SCX pod into the back, or just glue a motor and run the axle thru some vertical stiffners to handle driveline and a guide just ahead of the front axle. Somewhere in the middle will be a spot for the Carrera chip.

How thick of styrene do you think I may need? I'm planning on some front to rear ribs for stiffness. Additionally, what's the best glue Cyano or some model plastic weld type like Ambroid ProWeld?

2.0mm sheet styrene is likely all you'll need. If you find you need stiffeners, then I'd use 0.047" piano wire glued in longitudinally with Loctite 380.

The best Styrene glues are those which resolve the material and thus "weld" the joints. It takes abit more patience to let it harden completely but you get absolute firm parts.

This was an attempt to build a chassis completely from styrene. The black styrene you get at EBAY is a bit soft, so stiffeners had to be installed by all means.

The chassis worked very well.

This is also a custom 2.0mm styrene platform chassis, with a Slot.It SW pod.

I think that 2.0mm styrene should be all that you need for a car to mount your camera.

I remember a Blow by Blow on the build.
I may be wrong. My wife keeps telling me that.

Finally had some time to devote to the project. Took the advice and went with the 2.0mm/ .080" sheet and added .187" X ..312" rectangular tubing because it looked about right. It's glued together with CA because I was in a rush. I had some brass tubing the right size for axle tubes, so that was used for axle carriers. The wheelbase is 4.25" and width 2.5"

The axles are Slot.it, wheels CB design 15X11 and Supertires 1108. Like most of us, it's stuff I had collecting dust. The motor is a SCX 42B with whatever gear was on there and a Slot.it 28 crown.

I'm at the point where I need to add wiring and the Carrera digital chip and try it out. The camera has some heft, so I'll need to run a counter weight. I'm also concerned about the overhangs touching some of the elevation changes, it's only styrene and I can build another if needed.

Why not put the camera behind the front wheels?
