Toyota S800 build

While waiting for my Ranchero build paint to cure, I thought I'd move on a small car that I've been wanting to do for awhile. Saw the Arii 1965 Toyota S800 body from a couple of proxy entries in SLOP and U13 Challenge. I really liked the SLOP entry with big flares so that kit got on the Find list. Fortunately, found it locally and it's nicely done with crisp molds.

Marked off wheel arch reference points with a felt pen and formed a support structure with masking tape. I`ll layer 5 minute epoxy until I get my desired flare profile.





I'm just using my revamped Bugeye 4's adjustable wheelbase chassis while I wait for ordered rims to do a dedicated chassis build.

Looks good Dan. I really must get at the Arii Mazda 360 and Subaru 360 kits I have to build. I am hoping to wildly flare them as well. They will probably be almost wider than they are long. Should be interesting.

I hope you will be making a mould before you finish it, and I will do the same with mine. The resin castings make better slot cars than the master with the epoxy.

Rough filed arches are coming along.





I've got thoughts of making this a spyder version with a hard cover, small driver opening and streamlined headrest. That would be easier to mold.

Mock fitted the body with wheel arches radiused a bit more onto the Bugeye chassis.







This is going to work out.

Sprayed Tamiya fine white primer. A little more filling and sanding to go.







Reminds me of a Fiat X1/9. Still deciding on final color.

The look is really transformed with the targa top and windscreen assembly in place.







Reminds me more of a Lotus Elan coupe now.

Made a mold and popped out the first cast body.







Not bad. Flares turned out. Should have recessed the grille openings more and molded with the headlight lense covers and tailights on. Oh well.

Anyways, I can now build a spyder racer to accompany the targa top car.

Most of the trimming, sanding and a bit of filling are done on this resin pop.



Radiused the rear arches a bit more to cover the fat tires (Fly March F1) I like to use on small car builds. This build looks like it deserves its own metal chassis.

Looks great! We have to get a proxy going with one of your flaired bodies; they're just too cool looking not to race as a class. I still like the 356.

Got a dedicated chassis going with the Devised Designs slimline motor pod. Will add some .064 brass side pans for additional weight.







The rear Fly March F1 tires look a bit large but I find that my small car builds are now better equipped to run with the stock Slot Its in our Open Class bracket racing. The fronts are Slot It Ferrari 312.

Lots more work to go.
