Elfin T400 - Repco

Postby chris » Sun Dec 13, 2015 4:06 am

Elfin sports cars were founded in South Australia in 1962 by Garrie Cooper and by the end of the decade became the biggest racing car producers in the Southern Hemisphere and remained so until Cooper's fatal heart attack in 1983. Returning from a trip to the U.K. in 1965 he was fired up by the excitement for big engine sports cars such as the Lola T-70. Over a long lunch with Australia's leading sports car driver, Frank Matich, the details of the new Elfin were mapped out on a restaurant napkin. Four T400's were finished by the end of '65, Matich winning on debut with his Traco-Oldsmobile powered version. I did the Bob Jane version powered by the Repco 3.8 ex F1 motor. The body is fiberglass done by John Bacon who sadly no longer produces any ( shoulda bought more as he had a stack of models), and the running gear is out of the spares box.
Chris.

Great looking build!
Thank you for sharing the background on the model's origins as well as I had never heard of the Elfin!

Neat work.Great choice of model too. You have made a good job of the finish.
I have a few John Bacon bodies and they are not an easy thing to get the perfect result with compared to a modern resin.
