3/32 drill blanks

Anyone have a source for blank longer than the 2 1/4" I'm finding? I need at least 3".

Hi Dave:

I use McMaster Carr #http://www.mcmaster.com/#8893K133 3/32 SAE O1 Oil hardened rod in 3 or 6' lengths.

I usually get the 6 ft. lengths and share with the guys in our group. This stuff runs pretty straight and true, and it's easy to cut to length with a Dremel.

I used precision ground drill blanks for years, and when I tried the ejector pins Jon turned us on to, I never looked back. I use 3/32 & 1/8, and they also come in metrics.

The McMaster and Carr pin prices seem a little high for my purpose @ $5.40 for a 2 1/2" piece of 3/32 diameter

I found Hobbylinc has 3/32 x 36" music wires 10 rods for $8.39 I don't know if these are strong enough for axles or not
K&S 506 is the number. Hope this might help.

Charlie, that is the exact ones I use for fronts. So when I get harder axle material, it just lasts me a little longer :)

I have the KS music wire but was a little leery using it because they are going to stick out past the bushings 1/4" before they get to the wheels so close to 3/4" total. Didn't think the piano wire could take the weight of the aluminum wheels and tires unsupported that far out. Especially the rear.

Speaking of piano wire, I know there are slight tolerance differences so I took a bushing with me the LHS and I was glad I did. They had 3 sets of wires, I couldn't get 2 sets of wire in the bushing, luckily the 3rd set slid in like butter. Pays to check before you buy.

Dave let me know next time you are coming to the store. I think I have some wire here, I bought it when I first got into racing. Don't use it anymore. Not true enough for what we race but I am sure it is good enough for your type of stuff.

There was a thread some time ago posted, I think by Dodgefarmer. He bought lengths of 3/32 drill rod and cut it to size. The price was really good and you bought either 5 or 10 lengths to a bundle, if I recall correctly.

I will try to find it and post a link.

I always use piano wire, especially on small cars like Sprites or Minis. I guess I'm too cheap to buy Slot.it axles and throw away a third of it.
