That is a super idea for a quick and easy way to make brackets. The bending is already done for you, with a drill press you can get accurate holes, and even if you make a mistake cutting them out, the important stuff is already done. We have a club-mate who makes 1/24 chassis out of 1.5 inch aluminum channel using basically the same techniques.

There was a fellow in Oregon who used 1" square brass tubing, but brass in that size is hard to find. As I recall, he got his from a New Jersey bar stool manufacturer. Square 3/4" brass tubing might be easier to find.

A copy of the BWA bracket (front and rear) is available from an Australian guy....I bought a few.

John, are any photos of these Australian brackets available? BWA made a least 2 or 3 different rear brackets. The forged one that fit FK type & 16D motors, later he made stamped plates & a motor brackest that fit the small slimline motors (FF050?). He also made a front chassis piece that matched the width of the stamped pieces. Add two pieces of brass rod & you had a neat 1/43 chassis. :)

Thanks John. In the photos of BWA's I saw, those slimline brass parts looked to be very well made. Unfortunately, I never had a use, so I never bought any. Somewhere, maybe on here, I saw a build where the builder made his own slimline mounting plate. I would think a 3-sided bracket would be more handy, but also more work to make.:)

Sorry Bill from NH. I am not Steve Okeefe. However, I just might have that article somewhere in my shop. I have also checked into the square brass tube. It is expensive but available from Online metals.

I just read through this thread and came up with a good idea. OnlineMetals.com sells 3/4 inch square brass tubing that has a .065" sidewall. They will sell it as short as a foot long or even off-cuts that are less. If the holes are laid out and drilled with a press, the tubing could then be cut off crossways and once the fourth side is cut away you would have a bracket.

No bending would be necessary, just drilling and cutting. and you could make 24 or more out of one foot long piece.

The trouble is they want twice as much for mailing as the tubing piece costs, and their Canadian outlet doesn't have this tubing.

F.Y.I. Some 1/24 scale scratchbuilders are using 3/4" wide brackets for F1 chassis, 1" wide ones for sportscar chassis. Bracket width has never been standardized, probably never well be. The Russkit bracket that was popular for all inlines during the 60's was an odd width, as I recall it was around .900", but it worked.

I am using the JK 1" ones for the majority of my scratch builds as they are readily available at the local track - the only stamped 3/4" ones they carry are designed for an offset crown, and I prefer to run a standard crown. :)
But if it helps - I can see about getting the part number?
