Doc,
Hopefully this is the first in a line of chassis that will be coming out of your shop. Each time you build, the chassis just come out a bit neater and with more and more little features that help it get around the track better and better.
Most of the tuning that Harry and the gang does provides "isolation" of movement from different parts of the car. Body lean and all those other little things just work. Can you get too much of this into a chassis? I certainly do think so.
Now, I found it quite interesting that with a hard body mounted on a chassis the body mount is quite critical. The pan or pans must be all fixed on a single plane. Quite interestingly the chassis that I received with my George Turner Models McLaren M1A has a very similar design to what I have stumbled upon. It is a "shaker" style plate that has just a tad (about .015) of movement in it. This seems to be work just fine.
If you take a look at the HRS-2 chassis, it is very similar in design. I do think that this provides the optimum in body / chassis isolation. Of course it is strictly my opinion.
Now on the subject of removing excess solder . . . . . . Dennis Samson, when asked what was the best way to remove excess solder by me a few years ago gave me the best advice possible. "Simply do not put any excess solder on!"
I have found that using .032 wire solder will let you make excellent joints and not bury the chassis in excess solder.
Keep up the great work.
