Austin Mini build 5

Postby VTECFOUR » Tue Sep 01, 2015 2:24 pm

Had only just one set of Slotworx (Australia) front axle/guide and FF050 motor brackets left so I built them into something special for me, an Austin Mini.

The body was done at least a year ago, a modified Shotgun Dave resin. The previous chassis was from a Reprotec Fiat Abarth.

I'm keen to see the difference on the track.

Stay tuned.

That Mini was too fast with the Reprotec chassis, it will be uncatchable with a brass one.

I have four Mini bodies I need to build up. I guess I better get building so you have another Mini to race when you get back to the suddenly again "wet coast". We've had over 120 mm of rain this weekend and it is still coming down.

That is a clean looking set up! Hopefully that will be part of the upcoming Autograss run so I get a chance to turn some laps with it! :D

@ chappy - Make the leap. You've got a few resin bodies that could benefit from brass chassis.

@ Retro Racer - This body's different from my proxy car. Shared the Reprotec chassis with one of my Bugeyes so it didn't get run much with this Shotgun Dave body.

Got the chassis running.

Powered by my favorite small car motor, the Scalextric red 20k FF050 motor geared with a Scalextric Sport 8t pinion and SCX Pro 24t crown. Rolling with custom Ranch Design rims and Paul Gage tires. Guide's a Scale Auto universal one.

Feels good but would benefit from more traction.

Body mounting's next.

Took a detour body-wise. Mounted my more beat up modified Shotgun Dave resin on the chassis.

The body's already well worn so test run with this first.

Fate takes you in strange directions. A friend came by and expressed interest in body copies if I ever cast. After scraping the bottom of my remaining silicone supply and reducing the mold box size, I had just enough for a slosh mold of the better body.

No more fixing broken wheel flares.

I knew it was only a matter of time before you casted one like that. Hope you bring the mould when you come west again. I need another Mini resin body like a hole in the head, but I do like the ready made flares on a low profile body. Perfect for Autograss higher class. Since you started posting this thread, I have three Minis in various stages of completion and three more trimmed but nothing under them yet. A maxi number of Minis, eh?

See you soon,
