"Tis the season . . . for ice racing !

Postby Wolseley Hornet » Sat Dec 22, 2012 4:53 pm

Happy Christmas to all at HRW, and to all other members!

Image

This is a second experimental "lightweight" routed track.

Image

I scoured the internet looking for an ice-racing slot track - couldn't find one !

Image

Hope you agree that for someone living in the North of England to build a frozen lake race track, it takes the Lake Wobegon Effect! Hope Garrison Keillor won't mind.

Image

It's only 6ft by 3ft 6ins (size of sheets that will fit in the car). So more of a table decoration really, but it should keep everybody entertained over Christmas.

Sorry about the dull pictures - we have had iron-grey skies and rain for a week, with no sunshine forecast.

Season's Greetings to All.

David.

Crackin' job. I'm aware of only one other track with an ice racing theme, but I'm sure it's a single lane track only. Done by a fellow on SFI based somewhere in Wales.

Compliments of the silly season to all.

Now that is fantastic!!! I've done it a few times myself and I think you've captured ice racing perfectly!

You mentioned lightweight - foamcore?

Thanks to all for the kind compliments.

Rob - glad you like the green Mustang. Truth is it's a salvage job. I built up the Hornby kit of the Parnelli Jones Boss Mustang, painted it,spent hours applying the rather complex decals, clear coated it . . . and all the colours immediately ran into one another! Had to strip it all down, but by then I'd wasted the decals - hence the made-up livery.

David - It's not foamcore. It's my two least favourite materials: bobbly expanded polystyrene and hardboard (same as Masonite, I think). Not as lightweight as I had hoped.I'll share some of the lessons learned sometime in the New Year, when I've seen how it stands up to wear and tear over Christmas.

All the best.

David.
