This is a vintage rail I had in 1994. I re-built it to run the nostalgia drag series back then, Cadillac 394 engine with chain driven 4-71 GMC supercharger. chassis was an old Dode Martin. Triumph motorcycle front wheels, and an original set of M&H Racemasters on the rear. It had an early ford rear end, locked, with 4:44 gears. To say this was a handful would be an understatement!
Oh yea, that Merc was a friends car I chopped the top on and did all the mechanicals. It won the Lead east Nats the next fall.
thought maybe this could be used as a reference photo for anyone building a vintage digger for the race.

Made some great progress today! test fit everything, and broke it down for some paint. Made the body by taking sheet styrene, and vac forming it around a 9 volt battery! M/T Resins rear inserts. still needs the chrome on the front end, and the engine built, but its getting there!

That is impressive. The front wheels look great and even had steering linkage. Nice. JIm

This is mighty fine sir. The photo of your 1:1 just makes this project even better and more fun to watch.

Thanks Harry, I believe i am having as much fun building this scale version as i did the full size one! and it takes up way less space and money.
And thanks for all your help yesterday, I got it all worked out and the parts ordered. I knew i asked the right person!

Yes been going through this myself, it`s been combination of guide placement, and narrowing the rear contact patch to keep the front down. getting better, but there has been alot of re- and de-soldering. May have to build a new chassis after I get the drive lined out, just so it don`t like like a little steel holding alot of solder together. Been a hair pulling ball of fun though to get it figured out.

I feel your pain on that one! I started over more than once on this one. I wanted a little show action as well as a good running, straight driving car. Long road to get there, and it still really isn't tested under fire. But time will tell I guess?
