1:24 Academy Ferrari 250LM Carrera Digital

I built this car on a modified Carrera Breadvan chassis. It's competitive and might actually win a race if I can manage to avoid stupid mistakes. It's 12 grams lighter than the Breadvan was. I had to shorten the wheelbase 3/32". The most time consuming part was dropping the front axle so the smaller front tires would contact the track. I accomplished this with a dremel and styrene spacers. I removed the wheel inserts and stripped the chrome then resprayed them with a combination of Testors metalizers. The Academy wheels look more like Borranis I wish I could have used them. This model kid isn't the most finely detailed but I think it captures the 250LM very well.

I can attest that this car goes like lightning. It's super detailed and runs as good as it looks, keeping up with those pesky 917s.

That wood finish on the steering wheel makes me sick! Great job on the interior.

With all the time and effort that you put in to this car, you've got some guts running it in our demolition derby. :lol:

Thanks for all the kind words. I was a little worried goosenapper about putting it on the track but very pleased at how well it's held up. Like the SVRA slogan says, "Some people collect art, we race it!"
Mark, I made the cut just in front of the front magnet. There is nothing there between it and the circuit board. I used a razor saw. I rejoined it with CA glue then put a big fat bead of hot glue across the inside. The two white strips you see in the chassis picture are strips of styrene to further strengthen it. It's taken a couple pretty hard hits and so far remained solid.

This car is super nice in person. I love seeing it on the track. We are getting a small collection of unique cars to run and this one is one of the best. It is a small car too, which makes it even neater.

Absolutely super deluxe effort. Ive got an Academy kit that's been laying around for ages. Doubt it will end up looking as good as yours.
