Aurora Ferrari 612 build

As has been clearly pointed out to me on my "oval" car post, there any many members who are also road course fans, so I submit my Aurora Ferrari 612 build.

A little history........Many many years ago, I was lapping my Eldon's, Strommies, and Monogram cars on my basement plastic track when my next door neighbor arrived with his newly acquired (dad bought) Aurora 1/32 Ferrari 612.......well, my heart nearly stopped.....It was my all time favorite looking car, I used to drool over the pics. of this thing in the car racing magazines, and it was driven by one of my childhood heroes...Chris Amon.

Despite the car being a mule, thanks to its Ajet (basically a stretched T Jet) chassis, I vowed that one day I would have one!

A few years back, I decided to find one, add a few details, and build a half decent chassis for the little beauty....

Clean, clean, clean they say, on the far side of the hill....I think I have seen it before somewhere but the car still knocks me out.

Love that chassis build. Slimline sidewinder is not a common setup so I'm picking it would handle beautifully.

I have a sweet spot for this car. I saw the high winged version race at Elkhart Lake in 1969.

I forgot to add this to my first post..............For anyone looking for one of these bodies (the originals are like hens teeth), Dave Reinecke (RMS), makes 2 very lovely versions. He makes an exact copy of the original Aurora with the molded in driver figure, and ugly rear end, or, an improved version, with the high wing, separate driver, and a bunch of other nice detail bits.

That is another great project!

The modern slimline sidewinder setup looks so good, it makes me wonder why would anyone build a slot car any other way? The traditional building methods, the vintage body, and the craftsmanship really make this a great 'restification' (restoration-modification)!
