Fat Fiat Abarth 1000 build

Postby VTECFOUR » Tue Feb 10, 2015 5:52 pm

Got going on this fat fendered Fiat Abarth 1000 using the SCX body. First layer of two-part 5 minute JB Weld epoxy applied for a gradual build up to get the right profile. This fast setting stuff settles by gravity so you can't apply too much at once.

The catalyst was adding these big rear meats onto the Ranch Design chassis commandeered from my previous Fiat 850 Sport coupe build.

I find these little cars powered by slimline motors perform better with wide fat tires.

You Sir, are nuts and I love that!

I do have it on good authority though that Lee will cry if you don't paint it in Gulf colors again though...

I see you are being very careful to mask off the decalled part of the car. All you need to do is colour match the pale blue and just paint the flares. Glad to see the chassis I gave you going into another build, eh?

Rough shaping of the widened rear arch is coming along.

Progress with more rough shaping on the extended wheel arches.

Mocked stance works for me.

Got going on this with paint after sitting a couple of months.

Brush painted Vallejo Sky Blue onto the rear fenders. Tone's off but it's good enough for me.

Applying Future acrylic and fabricating a driver tray are next. Run's much better than the stock SCX ever did.

That is super awesome! Based on the pic, I'd say it's about spot on.

Note the resin in the background.

You really are doing a whole team of these, then?

Glorious!
