My first resin cast - Fat Bugeye Sprite

While revamping one of my fat Bugeyes, it seemed opportune to prepare a mold and dive into resin casting.



I find adding wheel flares rather time-consuming and a bit laborious, so cutting down that effort to make another fat Bugeye was very appealing.

With Retro Racer's inspiration, Lego blocks and sheet and tips and Luf's workshop, materials and more advice, I prepared a silicone mold a few days ago.

This afternoon I poured the resin and out popped out this body with a driver torso in place.





The sills are a bit covered between wheel arches rather than straight , but I'll know better how to place the plastecine dam next time.

I'm going to call this a Bull Frogeye.

These are a lot of fun to run , I have the George Turner Bullfrog, and it is a hoot, or perhaps ribbit..
They really run good especially with a brass chassis.

Dremeled, filed and sanded.



Not too bad on excess material in the underside.



I can see that casting is addictive.

That has cool written all over it.....now do a run of them.

Casting is addictive. I have ruined a few pairs of jeans, my favourite sneakers and the carpet near my bench by slurping resin about. Once I went to work and a mate commented that I had some chalk or white stuff on the side of my face..it was resin. I should wear gloves but I dont and after a casting session I have caked fingers. I do wear safety glasses though.

Funny thing, At my work we use a touch read time clock, It is based off your finger print. Even with an alternative finger choice, the resin has kept me from clocking in a time or two!. It gets in those lines, and you cant scrub it out. I wear gloves now.
