The Completed Michelin Tower before and after

Postby turbokev » Sat Feb 07, 2015 8:58 pm

I wanted to make a new post to celebrate the completion of the Michelin Tower at Lime Rock Park V.2

Most of you have seen or followed the build, but now that some more details have been added and
the building has been moved to my track, I thought it would be a good time to show some before
and after pictures and share some of the great details that make this new version a cut above the last.

As a recap.. the subject matter. The Michelin Tower was designed by racing legend Sam Posey and
his brother. It was constructed in just 4 months early in 1998. Groundbreaking was January 14th of
that year, and the building was completed on May 22nd.. Just in time to be dedicated on May 25th,
the day of the Dodge Dealers Grand Prix.

Over the years, the signage on the tower has changed with different track sponsors, and different
racing events, but I decided to use the original Michelin signage for this version of the building.

While still not an exact replica, this version is really close and completely captures the spirit of
the building Sam Posey drew up and is so instantly recognizable to those of us who love Lime Rock Park.

Here are a few before and after pictures..

The West end of the building:

The walkway on the rear of the building:

The front of the building.. note the new roof:

And now, just some more shots of the new building, detailed here and there with spectators, posters, artwork, furniture, laptop computers and more:

I have more details to add... more spectators and track officials to put in place, but I think
it's looking pretty darn great right now

A huge public thanks to my Dad.. He's been enthusiastic about this whole project since the start of version 1 and
has dedicated so much time to research, and drawings, and the actual building itself. I love you Dad, and will treasure
this as the artwork it is, but moreso the time we've spent talking about it and enjoying the common bond~

Likely one of the coolest, most impressive scenery items I have ever seen.

The white board with the driving technique instructor is just fantastic.

A treasure and an heirloom. Sam and his brother would be proud.

Kev, that is wonderful! Your Dad is an artist; I thought the first version was spectacular, this one is just over the top. I will reiterate my concern about the first one here: build a STRONG fence/retaining wall around this gem!
