Pictures of a Henry J modified.

A friend of mine was in Wis. for his nieces wedding and stopped by the Hartford Auto Museum and took these pictures of a Henry J modified. Not sure if you can see in the second picture but she's got a Cadillac engine in her. I have never seen a Henry J modified,just gassers, so I thought I would share. It is bad, I may have to do one. I never saw a Henry J as anything but a gasser on a drag strip, either. That car is unique. I wonder if that's one of those massive 500+ c.i. V-8s from the giant Eldorado front wheel drive years (1976)?

Very cool. This is a great pic. I like this one too, I just never thought of a Henry J as a modified. Big Donkey resin has a J car body but you have to make it a modified but it could be done. Jim

Wow! That is really cool looking. I made an HO version from a yellow Dash body on an Aurora T-Jet chassis. G-Plus wheels in back, XLerator A/FX size slotted rear mags on the front. Blue and orange 'Permatex' sponsors and numbers from Parma with slip on silicone tires. Runs great, even on the road courses!

I agree about the '39 Ford or '40 Mercury/Ford. The under edge of the hood is the giveaway. That little flare was pretty unique. My '41 Ford didn't have it, so the style element went away quickly.

J's were very popular around Wisc. as well as all styles of Crosely's. Maybe you can get John to post some more photos on this site. Our club, MBRA, runs a vintage class for this type of car, and i have built a few Henry J's using cutdown Lindberg 52 Chevy's with tail fins added. We also use Boss bodies "skinny's"

Boy, does that bring back some great memories. In the late 60's when I was a very little kid my dad had a metallic blue Henry J that we used as our off road car. I grew up out in the high desert of So Cal. He used to race that thing around the desert like nothing. Great little car way before the off road racing era of today. With no seat belts I can remember hitting my head on the roof quite a few times. Later, he ordered lap belts from JC Whitney which were a huge improvement.

Wish somebody would make a model of that car. It would be a very fun slot car.
