Axle Question

Postby swampdog12345 » Sun Nov 02, 2014 9:25 pm

I can't seem to find brass tuning listed by inside diameter. What OD tubing do you guys use to hold 3/32" axles? I am ready to try building my first brass chassis. Thanks!!

K&S #127 is 1/8" OD. Fits 3/32 axle like a glove.

Took me a while, then I remembered how I hit "n" when I aim for "b". I really have to stop typing when I'm like that. Anyway, at almost midnight my time, yes, Ember is exactly correct. I think I'll go to bed.

What you want is 5/32 tubing for the entire length and insert a small 1/8 tube about 3-4mm long as the "bearing" on each side. Amaze your friends as your front axle spins for 3 times as long as your friends tubed axle. The reduction in friction is huge!!

With K&S round tubing, I remember that the OD is always 1/32" larger than its ID. This works for brass & aluminum, I'm not sure how their stainless runs.

Dr. Fabio, yes, that's a good trick with the front axle tubing. I first saw that being done on brass/wire chassis in the early 70's. Drill a small hole or make a short slit on both ends of the front axle tube. Either will make lubricating the front axle much easier.

Thanks everyone for the info. Not sure I want to post my first chassis for the world to see, but I'll think about it.
