Steve,
It was a pleasure racing next to you over the course of six 48 minute heats. Also John G to my right who showed true sportsmanship throughout the race.
I want to thank SCC for helping the Detroit Dum Dum's achieve a second place finish by supporting our build effort with the ultimate in car go fast parts from SCC!
All parts on our car down to the braid and oil were SCC parts. Without a doubt the only choice for a competitive build. Definately the best second place finish I have had the pleasure to experience.

Smokeio,
It was kind of fate that you were at the controller during the last heat when Team SCC broke the record. I very much appreciate all the help you have given to me through the years with car building. I also enjoyed watching you break the single heat lap total record with a 401.

Kurt,
you are being modest pointing out how we all came through in the clutch. Dont forget, you started the race under very tense conditions with maybe a half hour total on the track and no time with the car you were driving and posted a 390 in yellow to star the race. If that aint clutch, I dont know what is.

Too many others left to thank or offer my compliments to other than to say, THANKS TO EVERYONE for a great race!

Yeah, going into that final rotation, four drivers had to deliver a solid lead so Dave had a fighting chance running the final heat in the slow lane. Every guy delivered, and Cloverleaf definitely didn't make it easy -- they ran well under pressure, too. High quality racing right to the end. :)

Dave also made a key decision in the wee hours of the morning (21st heat) to go after the handling problems right away, instead of waiting. If we'd waited, we'd have had one more heat with the car giving up half a second per lap. That would have cost us about 190 seconds, or about 25 laps.

For you guys who have never tried endurance racing, there is so much more strategy than normal racing. Hopefully you will give it a shot one day. It'll wear you out, and about 8 hours into it you'll wonder why you're doing this, but by the end, you'll be glad you did. :)

Great pics , but where's the one of the winning car with the body off , in all it's technical glory ? Surely I'm not the only one that wants a peek at the set up on this record breaker ? :)

Here are the final and complete results for each heat. Racing in the dark took place between heats 16 and 20, inclusively.

Of course, lower numbers usually means that the car was taken off the track for a while for repairs or adjustments.

As I said on the other forum, we did took those pictures at the last two Michigan races but this year, it was kind of chaotic at the end of the race with all the people in the room congratulating each other, the filming crew that was there, the trophy, the food and all the excitement. We didn't get to take proper pictures of each team and each car.

I guess Mike, who now has the car at his home, will give us some details on the setup he used in the next few days.

In the meantime, here is how you can build and race one of your own:

1) Get your SuperTires properly glued and trued on your CBDesign wheels
2) Attach wheels, gears, guide, etc. to Saturn V rocket
3) Give Dickie a controller
4) Stand back

Yep, we drove back to Montreal right after the race and a nice lunch with fellow drivers. We got to bed around 1AM to sleep a bit before continuing to Quebec City on Monday morning. Exhausting weekend but so much fun!

Not me. Mike at Clover Leaf had the camera crew there. If I put that together, I wouldn't have had so many jump cuts during the interviews. :)

Besides, I was in my bed during the night racing.

My wife and I just got home about an hour ago (yes, 9 o'clock on Tuesday night) from the event. You see, since our travel home brought us through Niagara Falls, we stopped and had a look see of the fantastic view. And then I got to race with the guys from Ace Hobbies on Monday night. You athunk having just raced a 24 hour race would have been enough, but these guys are a blast to race with.

The video production posted above really sums up how this event is. Lots of fun. That was a great film showing what goes on before and during the race.

I already can't wait til next year! :D

A little story behind the car because we had some internal "discussions" on what car to build, test, and race. My plan and suggestion was to run the Slot.it Nissan running a 6 point pod. All my local testing showed this was the setup. Someone on the team who will remain anonymous but name rhymes with stickie suggested we try an NSR Mosler. I didn’t even want to look at the car and protested the suggestion but a box full of NSR parts showed up at my door step with an order to “build or else we take away your black and yellow SCC underwear”. The Mosler ended up showing promise but that annoying chatter was a thorn in my side. A great deal of time and effort was put into trying to tune it out but all I could do was minimize it.

We arrived at the track with a total of 9 different cars consisting of Slot.it Nissans, Racer DPs, NSR Moslers and our past winners. When we put the Mosler on the track, the car was instantly fast and extremely smooth. I still liked the way the Slot.it Nissan ran and the way it handled the infield section better but that stickie guy got in the way and the decision was made to race with the Mosler. I still would have liked to see the Slot.it run as I believe the 6 point pod shows promise.

Car Info:
Chassis – Evo 3 light weight
Pinion – NSR 6.5 MM
Spur gear – Slot.it 18 MM
Pod – Sidewinder hard
Motor – 20k Scaleauto
Axles – Slot.it 54mm
Guide – Sloting Plus
Rear tires – Super tires 2112R
Rear rims – CBD Racing 15x11
Front Tires – Yellow Dog 1402R coated with IC2000
Front Rims – CBD Racing 15x8
Tire Glue – IC2000
Braid – SCC Racing braid
Lead Wire – SCC Hi-Flex motor wire
Bushings – SCC Racing
SCC front axle mounts
SCC Axle spacers
SCC Motor pod kit
SCC Super lube and grease
SCC Lighting kit
CAR-GO-FAST racing pod tape
STAY-ON-TRACK wax and detail spray

We never changed braid and the original set looked like new except for a little wear at the ends.

The IC2000 worked flawlessly as the tire glue with no tire separation. We also had little to no pickup on the front tires using the IC2000 as a zero grip.

The only real problems we had were crud on the braid and too much oil by the pit crew. A new pit board is in the works for better braid cleaning and the pit crew has been fired and the job posted for a new over the wall crew.

Did I mention the car was built with Slot Car Corner parts?
